The Davis Hall Science and Research Complex provides classrooms, research laboratories, teaching laboratories and faculty offices that are necessary for South Carolina State University to support the mission of its Department of Biological and Physical Sciences. Early in the design process, SMHa met with project stakeholders for a design charrette to collectively discuss internal functions, exterior aesthetics as well as the role this signature building should have on campus. The resulting design responds to its historic neighbor, Hodge Hall, through traditional massing, similar exterior materials and details designed to last while simultaneously housing advanced laboratory technology internally.
