Daniel Island, SC

Completion: 2004

Size: 17,540 sf

This daycare facility on Daniel Island accommodates infants to 4 yr. olds in a thoughtful yet whimsically designed building that simultaneously meets and exceeds NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) guidelines. United States Green Building Council’s LEED principles and credits were followed closely. Although not certified, the building utilized sustainable components such as light monitors for increased natural light, geothermal mechanical system, and the use of low-VOC materials. Cues were taken from the school’s proximity to coastal areas; integrating the color scheme, wall and floor designs with the locale.
