Mt. Pleasant Academy is located in a residential area of Mt. Pleasant’s Old Village. The existing school, which this building is replacing, has been on this location since the 1960’s, and the educational needs of the community have dramatically increased. The new facility, designed with Craig Gaulden Davis as consulting architect, has a student capacity of 500 kindergarten through fifth students to include 26 teaching stations and additional science, computer and special educational spaces. Due to the constraints of the site, the building is organized in a linear fashion, with a Welcome (administration) Center at the street. The classrooms and media center follow with the Dining Room facing the marsh. Exterior architectural expression is one of simple brick forms with generous glazed openings to provide sunlight to all the learning spaces.
