Blue House plantation is located on Edisto Island and was originally built in the early 1800s. Currently used as a weekend retreat, the need for a ground floor bedroom and more gathering space had become a necessity for the family. A plan was developed to add wings to the home, which include a master bedroom suite in one wing and a small office retreat in the other. Each wing is connected to the home by narrow, light-filled corridors, which gently engage the original house. The rear porch was enlarged and enclosed to provide more seating area and to avoid modifying the home’s original layout. The front porch columns and window shutters were replaced, returning the character of the home back to a more correct period.
