January 2012: Charles Muldrow, AIA, LEED BD+C has been invited to speak again at the Waterproofing Contractor's Association's Spring Conference in Pinehurst, NC on February 17, 2012.  He will share the current status of the BEC Charleston Net Zero Energy Habitat House recently occupied in Mount Pleasant, SC.
 
December 2011: SMHa Project Architect, Adam Rohaly, AIA LEED BD+C had the winning entry in the Armstrong Commercial Flooring "Ideas to Reality" International Design Competition!  Check out his creative and resourceful idea and design.  
November 2011: The Clemson School of Architecture has invited SMHa founding partner, Sam Herin, AIA to be a member of the Design Jury for the 4th year architecture students this semester; the students are charged with designing the proposed Graduate Engineering Center in Charleston.
 
October 2011:  The City of Charleston selected The Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island,SC as one of their design excellence award winners from the years 2000-2011. This modern day Chapel of Ease continues the work of Rev. John Burwell as a secondary location for the church.   
October 2011: Charles Muldrow, AIA LEED AP represented the Building Enclosure Council as they jointly received an AIA Charleston Honor Award for Sustainability for the Net Zero Energy House with East Cooper Breakfast Rotary and Habitat for Humanity.
 
September 2011: Charles Muldrow, AIA, LEED AP was a guest lecturer for the School of Math, Science + Engineering at Mount Pleasant's Wando High School.  The rising architects and engineers learned about Net Zero Energy House design principles.
 
September 2011: Congratulations to Trident Technical College on a successful opening of the Mount Pleasant Campus.  SMHa is thankful to have been a small part of this interior renovation project and looks forward to more good news from this growing college.  
July 2011:  SMHa Marketing Principal, Judy Dixon AIA, LEED AP, has been selected as the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Charleston Chairperson for the Class of 2012 and as such is a member of the Board of Directors for FY 2011-12.
 
June 2011:  SMHa recently completed an "Alternative Transportation" month, a focused attempt to reduce our single driver car trips to and from the office. With 75% participation, we were able to provide a 3% reduction of gas consumption and carbon emissions.   
June 2011: SMHa founding partner, Charles Muldrow, AIA, LEED AP received the "Service Above Self Award" from the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary in recognition of outstanding dedication and service.  He has been leading the charge for the Habitat for Humanity Net Zero Energy House, a joint venture between EC Breakfast Rotary and the Building Enclosure Council.
 
May 2011: Congratulations to Willowglen Academy on the Grand Opening of their new residential treatment facility.  Williamsburg County Council, Willowglen staff and stakeholders gathered this month for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony. SMHa is proud to have been a small part in the great things this organization does.
 
February 2011: On Friday, February 25th, the Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Rural Transportation Management Association TriCounty LINK Facility in Moncks Corner, SC.  SMHa was pleased to be included in the facility improvements for this exceptional organization.  
February 2011:  Congratulations to Ashley Hall ("Where Girls are Champions!") on the opening of the new Dining Facility.  SMHa is thankful to have been a part of the design team for this milestone project.
 
January 2011: Landscape Architecture Magazine has highlighted Mount Pleasant Academy in the January 2011 issue.  The compelling concept being the relaxed minimum acreage requirements and the willingness of the Town of Mount Pleasant to work with Charleston County School District thus allowing the school to be rebuilt in the Old Village neighborhood. Seamon Whiteside + Associates was the team's civil engineer and landscape architect.  
January 2011: Wishes to thank St. Peter's Anglican Church for trusting us to assist with their new facility which houses worship, fellowship and education spaces. Phase I was recently dedicated on January 9, 2011.

November 2010:  The United States Green Building Council has certified the Coastal Carolina University's Athletic Training Facility as LEED Gold.  SMHa is grateful to have been a part of the design team along with Seamon Whiteside & Associates (site design), ADC Engineering (structural engineering), DWG Engineering (mechanical / electrical) and SystemWorcx (commissioning).  The General Contractor was Mashburn / Christman.
 
November 2010: Congratulations to Chris Altman, AIA, LEED AP, who received an Honor Award from the AIA Charleston for his Maserati Garage Concept Design. He was interviewed prior to the awards ceremony by Charleston Home & Design Magazine.

August 2010: SMHa welcomes Ann McGahey to our team.  Ann has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Tennessee as well as a Master of Architecture with a Healthcare Architecture concentration from Clemson University.  She will assist with the planning and programming of our medical projects.
 
August 2010:  Judy Dixon was interviewed at the BIG (Best In Green) & Local Expo in Charleston on August 6th.  While we incorporate sustainable strategies into our client's projects everyday, there is always more to learn.

June 2010: Sam Herin will be on the panel at the USGBC's South Carolina meeting hosted by Coastal Carolina University.  "The Real Costs & Benefits of LEED Building" will be discussed with the entire project team of CCU's new Athletic Training Facility on track for LEED Silver.
 
May 2010:  Sam Herin participated in the inaugural AIA South Atlantic Region Architectural for Health Conference in Clemson on May 21. The conference focused on issues confronting Architects and Owners of healthcare architecture. Sessions included an overview of health in the US and how planning can be a part of better heath; how design can affect ongoing operations and maintenance; trends three health care providers see in the region; and the outstanding work being done by David Allison, FAIA at Clemson's emerging Center for Economic Excellence in Health Facility Design and Testing.  
May 2010: SMHa welcomes Anne Toole to our team.  With a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Clemson, Anne will fill the role of Administrative and Marketing Assistant. 
 
April 2010: On April 16th, Willowglen Academy held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for their new 19,000sf Residential Treatment Facility in Kingstree, SC.  SMHa congratulates them for this milestone event for a great cause and is thankful to have been a small part of it.  
 
April 2010: Dare to Dream! Misty Pallotta (SMHa family member via being engaged to Adam Rohaly) was honored by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship as a Teacher of the Year.  She was one of 26 honored in this international competition.  Great things are happening right here in Mount Pleasant by great people!  
April 2010: The Moultrie News features an article on the Net Zero Energy Home for Habitat that Charles Muldrow is spearheading with his Rotary Club and the Charleston Chapter of the Building Enclosure Council.
 
April 2010:  Sam Herin and Margie Longshore are both guest instructors for Clemson University's Architecture Center in Charleston.  Currently, they are assisting with the "Office Practice" class.  
April 2010: It's official!  Charles Muldrow has been named "2010 Architect of the Year" by the Charleston Contractor's Association.

March 2010:  The Mount Pleasant Academy design won an Honor Award at the South Carolina Council of Education Facility Planners International Conference last week.  SMHa thanks Charleston County School District for the opportunity to assist with this new facility.

January 2010:  SMHa is 20! This is the year we celebrate having completed twenty years of designing in and around the Lowcountry.  It was in 1990 when Sidney Stubbs, Charles Muldrow and Sam Herin set up shop in Sidney's garage.  From porch additions to company headquarters, SMHa has enjoyed being involved in the architectural evolution of the region.  Thanks to all of our clients, past and present, for trusting us with your buildings and projects.

December 2009: The Greenville Chapter of the American Institute of Architects awarded Mount Pleasant Academy a Merit Design Award.  Consulting K12 architect Craig Gaulden Davis of Greenville made the submission. Mount Pleasant Academy recently celebrated its 200th anniversary with a dedication ceremony for the new building.  
November 2009: Judy Dixon will be "Principal for a Day" at Laing Middle School on December 3, 2009.
 
November 2009: Rural Mission Inc. continues to serve our neighbors in need by providing safe housing.  SMHa is honored to have been a part of the Smiley House design and construction which was recently featured in the Moultrie News.  
November 2009: Rutledge Baptist Church, one of SMHa's ecclesiastic clients, helps house Pattison's Academy for Comprehensive Education.  The Academy, which serves students with multiple and severe disabilities, will occupy the Education wing of the 2006 Addition.

October 2009: "Passion plays a critical role in how you get the job done." Anita Zucker shared at the Charleston Regional Business Journal Influential Women In Business Luncheon.  Margie Longshore, one of SMHa's passionate architects, was one of the three winners in the Rising Star category.   
September 2009: The October Issue of Architectural Digest is now available including a special advertising section by Maserati featuring Chris Altman's Conceptual Garage Design.
 
September 2009: Charleston Regional Business Journal just announced that Margie Longshore is an Influential Women in Business finalist.  The final awards will be given at a luncheon on October 22 headlined by Anita Zucker.

March 2009: The Charleston Contractors' Association has selected Glenn Allison as one of three finalists for the 2009 Architect of the Year Award. Glenn has been with SMHa since 2000.
 
March 2009: The Folly Beach Holiday Inn has reopened after complete renovation. The renovation was completed by SMHa, Haute Design and Hill Construction.  
Winter 2009: Jeff Johnston is a volunteer for Learning By Design: North Charleston Elementary. Learning by Design is a program intended to integrate design conversation from a professional point of view into the standardized fourth grade math and social studies curricula. The program uses design relevant lessons from these two study areas and integrates them into the regular classroom discussions.  
February 2009: Daniel Island Academy received a Best in Class Design Award at the CEFPI South Carolina Chapter Winter Conference. Congratulations to SMHa's design team and Trident Construction.
