Situated in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina, the Cumberland Street Parking Garage addition created an additional 437 parking spaces for employees and patrons of the expanding county judicial complex, as well as much needed public parking for the area's seasonal visitors.

Sensitivity to the facility’s historic surroundings guided the design concept for the addition and demanded that the architecture contribute to this context. A light sandblast finish with a medium sandblast accent precast concrete was selected for the exterior to draw from the imagery of the nearby 18th and 19th Century stucco buildings and to achieve high durability and low maintenance requirements.

Approximately 2,700 square feet along the Church Street side of the complex is available for retail tenants, to provide a street presence of the central downtown shopping district. The Cumberland Street side of the garage has deep recesses allowing for colorful landscaping.
