CROW'S NEST

Daniel Island, SC

Working with Daniel Island Property Owner’s Association and AquaBlue Pools, SMHa designed the pool amenity building “Crow’s Nest” for the Edgefield Park Neighborhood on Daniel Island. The exposed timber structure and natural color palate were chosen to blend the building with the surrounding marsh front.

Completed in 2017, the 1,284-square-foot building includes men’s and women’s bathrooms, a catering kitchen, pool equipment storage, an oyster roast / multi-purpose gathering space, and an additional 1,286-square-foot screened-in gathering space for approximately 70 people.

Because the building is located in a flood zone, the structure had to be elevated to bring the toilets and kitchen space above the flood plane. The spaces under the elevated portion were designed for storage and gathering to the extent allowed by FEMA/NFIP regulations.
