CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Completed in 2003, this 33,270-square-foot addition included educational spaces and a parish hall to the existing church structure, which was awkwardly positioned on the site. SMHa was able to create a complex of buildings, which have a rational relationship to one another and are skillfully located on the site.
The existence of a civil war escarpment initially created a challenge but was turned into an asset by creating a dramatic entry focused on the church building. The architecture of the new buildings is in contrast to the existing church in materials but complimentary in form and traditional detailing.
